I think demand for small vans like this will be big. Consider vans that do deliveries in big cities. They work during the day and charge in the evening, thus reducing costs for companies.Sites I've Written On: -

Steen - Thrilled to hear that everyone is OK. Did you have any contact with the other drivers after the accident? Is Autopia's explanation of the accident accurate? Any idea why the Prius didn't stop? The fact that everyone walked away speaks to the safety of modern cars. The scene in the photo looks pretty nasty. UL Has Received Request to Certify EEStor's...
Posted: September 18th, 2009
From my interview with Ian Clifford, CEO of Zenn, published on GM-Volt.com on 7/20/09, his words are as follows:
"A few weeks ago EEStor made the public statement that they anticipate having at-voltage components verified independently by September of this year and deliver of production prototype EESU to us by then end of 2009. That’s directly from EEStor. They made that statement very recently, so it’s very very exciting progress."
He later clarified via email "The timeframe that EEStor had disclosed was the end of September."
Other than the quote in the above article, I have no other comments from UL.Sites I've Written On: -

Thanks John, for clarification on the EV mode driving. I do see this all the time even when traveling at higher speeds. Backing off the pedal after getting up to speed is a great way to get the car into EV mode. On tank 3 in my Prius and I am now up to 54mpg. This is with two people (sometimes three) in the car.Sites I've Written On: -

What's interesting is that the Tesla Model S is probably a Benz CLS underneath, and likely will be that in production...at least from what the Europress is reporting. There's one way to make that car pay for itself--and recast Daimler as cutting edge.!Sites I've Written On: -

Honda Working on Hybrid System For Larger...
Posted: October 31st, 2009
Hybrid vehicles need a lot of underfloor space for the batteries and other related components. Most minivans need that space for folding third row and (some) second row folding seats. If the van also is to offer all wheel drive, packaging becomes a problem. I heard to same whining from engineers about 25 years ago when the trend was to pour more electronic hardware into the instrument panel at the same time we were accepting passenger-side airbags.
I wrote a piece about the struggle to find a decent spot to put the fuel tank. Once upon a time they lived inside the left rear fender and the filler was hidden behind a flip-up tail light.
Now almost all fuel tanks are safer under the second row seats.Sites I've Written On: -

Arcimoto Pulse - 3 Wheel Electric Vehicle -...
Posted: October 1st, 2009
Nick,
We actually put three wheels on the vehicle to enhance efficiency and the overall footprint of the vehicle. Safety is key when building any vehicle and this is something we are working on constantly. We're building a steel roll cage similar to a race car with crumple zones for safety in front and rear. We are also simulating crash tests and roof crush resistance tests through a program called Solid Works.
The reality is, we all at Arcimoto want one of these and are not willing to put ourselves nor loved ones in a potentially unsafe vehicle.
Additionally, the Pulse is a 2 passenger vehicle, tandem style complete with shopping utility (can fit 4 grocery bags in the back in addition to an extra person.)
I think Jason said it best so far, the question that remains is what type of performance and utility consumers will demand. On average, we drive 33 miles per day in the U.S. At Arcimoto, we believe it's difficult in this economy to justify spending over $20K on a vehicle that is needed to drive an average of 33 miles per day with 1 person 70-80% of the time.
Thanks for your comments!

GM Hints That It May Sell Volts without motors...
Posted: October 15th, 2009
To Desertstraw: Well, GM tried to use the "Ovonic" NiMH batteries. They leaked and ruined their entire 2007 hybrid production. But, hey, I am sure if you ask them nicely, they will be willing to ship you all these recalled batteries just for the cost of shipping from the dumpster. Good luck!
You will be ill-advised to believe anything that the NiMH pushers tell you:

There are quite a few reasons why NiMH batteries are rapidly disappearing from consumer electronics, and soon, from hybrids or EVs.Sites I've Written On: -

Toyota's Passive-aggressive Approach To The...
Posted: October 19th, 2009
Who seems to be really, really sincere in promoting pure electric travel? My bet is that Ford will be the first to do it in the US, and BYD will do it for China. We have always owned Toyotas, but I think that Toyota has much more skill and resources than they are bringing to bear in this exciting market of pure EVs. I am afraid that they will be left standing in the dust, the zero emissions dust.Sites I've Written On: -

CEO of Zenn Motors: EEStor Production Storage...
Posted: July 20th, 2009
I think this is the last bit of credibility Zenn/EEStor has. They can't miss these dates.
I am skeptical Zenn has a highway capable car that they can just plug the EESU into. If Zenn's R&D budget (per google finance) is $250K per quarter, that seems impossible.
If EEStor demos the energy density in September, that will be huge for Zenn. I don't know how likely that is either. Why didn't they do it when they tested permittivity?

Posted: October 25th, 2009
hi and good morning, I am back on a rainy sunday in Denmark.
Thanks to Jason and Rob for the comments. Yes N.Y. I will be back :O) It was very nice.
I hit my head at the neck support, but I have not been suffering from whiplash yet. The doctors tell me there could be ocuring probems later, but not yet :O)
The Tesla was only 14 days old and i had ben driving it for 400 miles. A new roaster has been orderd and paid by the insurance company and will arrive in Denmark in about 6 months. The new S model will not be avaliable here in DK until 2012.
The driver of the Toyota Pirus Hybrid did not notice that the traffic was stopped in front of him (roadworks on the road). First he hit a motorbike, then me in the Tesla and I was pushed forward under the Touareg.
About the climate the modern batteries will not be reduced power until -40 F and it would hopefully not be this cold in Denmark.
Thanks for all for intrest in the accedent and my health.Sites I've Written On:
