Volkswagen is working on an upcoming "New Midsize Sedan".  The vehicle has no name at this point, but the company plans for the vehicle to be released here in the U.S. at the beginning of the 2012 calendar year.  It will be built at the VW plant in Chattanooga, Tenn.

The information above comes directly from VW.  However, Autocar is now reporting some additional information about the new VW model.  According to Autocar, the company will add a hybrid variant to the New Midsize Sedan by summer of 2012.

The standard engine options for the new sedan will likely include the 2.0 liter turbocharged four, a V6 option, and possibly a version of the companies 2.0 liter diesel TDI powerplant.  There is no mention of what powerplant would be fitted into the hybrid variant, but the already frugal TDI coupled with an electric motor and some battery power could result in one of the most efficient hybrid packages on the market.

Look for additional information about VWs New Midsize Sedan in the coming months as production draws near.
