June marked the first time in history that a hybrid topped the list of best-selling autos, out-selling all other vehicles across Japan. In May, the third-generation Prius beat out all other cars, which doesn't include popular mini-vehicles with engine less than 660 cc. But in June, the Prius out-sold all vehicles, even the mini-cars, according to the Japan Automobile Dealers Association.
Since the launch of the brand twelve years ago, Toyota has sold more than 1.25 million Priuses, including the 22,292 sold in Japan alone last month. The runner-up in Japan's June sales was the Honda Fit, which sold 13,016 units.

I read some forums and Toyota Prius is in the top list most owned cars, but others say that this vehicle have higher repair cost, I don't know why.

In answer to #1, I have owned a Prius for nine years. The Prius is a very complex car and repairs on it are expensive, if you are lucky enough to find a Toyota dealer who knows how to repair it. On the other hand, like all Toyotas they hold up well.
