Obama Says US is Making Enormous Progress on Climate Change

December 31st, 1969 According to Reuters, President Obama made a statement just over a week ago declaring that the U.S. has made "enormous progress" on climate change.  With a climate change bill going through congress right now, tied in with the Cash for Clunkers program and numerous other programs, the president has declared that we have made great strides in the impact on the environment.  He also noted that there is still a long way to go. He may be a touch optimistic, as the enormous progress won't really come until the new CAFE standards kick in many years from now, and until several other programs get underway, but he sees the light at the end of the tunnel and he hopes to turn around our destruction of the environment. The comments from Obama came just after he met with German Chancellor Angela Merkel, who commended the U.S. president for his commitment to ridding the country of greenhouse gases. Enormous progress is strong words, but they may be unsubstantiated at this time as little real progress is evident.  Obama could be referring to the progress that will be made a decade from now when auto manufacturers must meet stringent new standards, but that years away. We are hopeful that progress will be noticeable over the coming years, but don't let the president fool you into believing that the progress we have made since he took office is enormous.  If others believe this, they may not push forward towards more stringent environmental goals.  Instead believing the goals have already been achieved. 1. ... sounds a whole lot like "Mission Accomplished" ...

  2. Apparently it didn't take him long to start to believe his own myth....

  3. Compared to past presidents i do feel like Obama has made significant progress in getting things pushed through that are environmentally friendly, instead of the "drill drill drill" slogan of McCain. Sure itll be a while until his progress translates into real world advances, but that doesnt discredit the progress. Hopefully other presidents follow suite and keep the environment at the front of thier priorities.

  4. Cash for clunkers won't help the environment or car sales. Most cars don't qualify and people don't have the money to buy new cars.
