An announcement from California-based Fisker Automotive is pending regarding its selection of a battery supplier to power its much-anticipated Karma EV. Though Fisker has declined to say how much the batteries will cost, the battery is typically the most expensive, and vital, part of any electric vehicle.
The four-door Karma will use a 22.6-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery produced by Advanced Lithium Power (ALP) in Canada, assembled in Taiwan. ALP is best known for supplying batteries to the U.S. military, and it is reported that in addition to penning a deal to source batteries from them, Fisker has also purchased an ownership stake in ALP.
Fisker has tested the ALP battery, specifically designed for automotive use, in its Karma for eight months, and can boast a range of up to 50 miles on a single charge.
